I still remember the first time I went to the Duke of York on Prince Arthur Avenue. It was our go-to happy hour hang out spot because it had a great patio, amazing sweet potato fries and cheap pitchers of Sangria. The first time I ever opened up a menu, there was always that oddly placed curry chicken wedged in between all the usual pub favorites. It is no secret that Indian food is rather mainstream in Britain, since they are the largest ethnic minority there.
The Duke Pubs have teamed up with Toronto’s Steam Whistle Brewing; executive chef Kevin Dougal has created a pilsner-infused Chicken Karma Masala, which will be featured on their menus and will be a permanent staple on the menu. Those who want to replicate the recipe can take home a Duke Pubs curry kit for $12.99. The kit contains the recipe, a jar of chutney, and curry spice. And there is no secret ingredient – just add Steam Whistle pilsner!
The curries at the Duke Pubs has always been a top-seller though each location likes to vary the recipe to suit their local customers.
